You are required by law to have adequate insurance for any motor vehicle that is used on the road.
Motor vehicles that require insurance include cars, vans, lorries, motor cycles, motor bikes, classic cars, learner drivers, boats and caravans.
If you do not have adequate insurance you could face a fine and have points put on your license. You also need insurance in order to obtain vehicle tax. If you have a vehicle that is no longer used on the road you do not normally need insurance but it is important to declare it to DVLA.
Bicycles are not required to have insurance by law.
